About The Position

The Associate Director of Occupational and Environmental Toxicology at Organon plays a crucial role in the Global Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) organization, focusing on product stewardship. This position involves collaboration with various cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with product stewardship obligations, protect human health and the environment, and contribute to sustainable business practices. The role encompasses responsibilities in both occupational and environmental toxicology, leading programs that assess and manage health risks associated with pharmaceutical products and their environmental impact.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Toxicology or related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in Occupational and Environmental Toxicology or equivalent life science areas.
  • High aptitude in applying scientific principles to synthesize literature for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to analyze data/process gaps and propose evidence-based solutions.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology and medical device industry, including knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to work effectively across a global, matrixed organization.
  • Proven ability to influence business process decisions with subject matter expertise.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong presentation abilities.
  • Expertise in EHS concepts, health and safety programs, and hazard communication.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Organon Drug Handling Committee and manage the development of ADEs, OELs, and exposure-related thresholds.
  • Provide scientifically-sound risk management processes for health hazard assessments.
  • Update and revise procedures related to health hazard assessments and develop methodologies for early-stage projects.
  • Prepare toxicology assessments and Safety Data Sheets in compliance with GHS regulations.
  • Support regulatory registrations and notifications, including REACH compliance.
  • Collaborate with industrial hygiene networks and R&D teams for comprehensive hazard evaluations.
  • Support business development activities related to occupational and environmental toxicology.
  • Prepare and review reports, memos, SOPs, and regulatory documents.
  • Establish partnerships with leaders to align programs with emerging risks.
  • Lead the environmental toxicology program and establish Environmental Quality Criteria for active pharmaceutical ingredients.
  • Support regulatory filings for environmental risk assessments and projects related to environmental contaminants.
  • Manage the Occupational and Environmental Toxicology program, including document lifecycle and program SharePoint site.
