About the position

The Associate Director of Development II (ADOD II) at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) plays a crucial role in the Iowa Development team, focusing on building relationships with major gift prospects to secure philanthropic resources. This position involves developing strategies for donor engagement, managing a portfolio of high-capacity donors, and achieving significant fundraising goals. The ADOD II will work closely with program staff and engage with donors to promote TNC's mission of environmental conservation.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a portfolio of 75-125 qualified donors with the capacity to give a minimum of $100,000.
  • Develop long-lasting relationships with donors and engage them in TNC's mission.
  • Conduct 60+ visits and 150-200 additional moves annually to cultivate donor relationships.
  • Achieve an annual fundraising goal of $750,000 - $1,000,000 or more, including bequest notifications.
  • Utilize the Conservancy's donor database to track interactions and manage donor information.
  • Develop proposals and budgets for funding requests, collaborating with program staff as needed.
  • Involve and engage appropriate partners in the field and staff at the Worldwide Office regarding donor interactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 6 years of related experience or an equivalent combination.
  • Experience in building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents.
  • Proven experience in asking for and closing gifts of $50,000 or more.
  • Experience managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors effectively.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, preferably in a large non-profit organization.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices, including capital campaigns and major gifts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience.
  • Ability to design and manage individualized fundraising plans.
  • Experience in educating donors about appropriate giving vehicles.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate complex agreements.
