About the position

The Associate Director of Engineering Project Management at the University of California, Davis, is responsible for overseeing a team of project managers to deliver complex capital projects within budget and schedule parameters. Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a group of project managers to deliver complex capital projects.
  • Manage multiple projects with a total budget typically between $200 million and $400 million.
  • Provide high-level leadership and mentoring to direct reports.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of large-scale capital improvement projects.
  • Establish project milestones and schedules, prepare cost estimates, and monitor adherence to budgets and schedules.
  • Advise senior management and consult with industry professionals on complex technical systems and construction features.
  • Resolve issues requiring specialized knowledge and provide guidance to lower-level project management specialists.
  • Promote emerging technologies through educational forums and programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience/training.
  • 12 years of experience managing large engineering and infrastructure capital projects.
  • Expert project management and construction administration experience.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of architectural, engineering, and construction practices, including California building codes.
  • Expertise in project budgeting, scheduling, and contractor management.
  • Experience supervising personnel and managing project teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Experience managing engineering/infrastructure capital projects in a university campus environment.
  • Knowledge of public contracting code and experience drafting modifications to agreements.
