About the position

The Associate Director of Facilities and Project Management at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is responsible for overseeing the Maintenance and Exhibits departments, ensuring effective project management for construction and renovation projects, and collaborating with various stakeholders to maintain the museum's facilities. This role involves direct supervision of staff, budget management, and the implementation of sustainable practices in all projects.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the museum project manager for new construction and major renovation projects.
  • Serve as the main point of contact with architects, engineers, and designers for major projects.
  • Assist in managing and updating the 5-year maintenance plan of the museum.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of the new master plan for the museum.
  • Prepare or review reports on project progress, materials used, and costs, adjusting work schedules as necessary.
  • Provide accurate estimates for manpower, materials, and equipment costs.
  • Set benchmarks for effective monitoring of construction progress.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes and project requirements by reviewing contract plans and specifications.
  • Evaluate the allocation of internal resources with appropriate supervisors.
  • Perform annual evaluations of staff and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Manage the budget for construction and renovation projects, overseeing financial planning.
  • Work with supervisors to prepare and oversee department and capital budgets.
  • Ensure internal customers are informed and supported by the museum's work order system.
  • Implement sustainable practices in new constructions and renovations.

Requirements

  • Associates degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • Three to five years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and the public.
  • Mathematical skills to work with concepts such as probability, statistics, and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Proficiency in project management software such as MS Project or equivalent.
  • Ability to navigate design software such as Sketch Up or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Wastewater Level 1 and Level 2 certifications (desired but not required).
