About the position

Virginia Tech's Innovation Campus is a bold, new vision for graduate education in computer science and computer engineering. Located adjacent to the nation's capital in Alexandria, Virginia, it will unite industry, government, and academia in dynamic project-based learning and purpose-driven research to shape the way emerging technologies influence society. The 11-story academic building of the Innovation Campus is set to open in 2025. Joining now offers a unique opportunity to be part of an emerging Virginia Tech graduate program while helping to design and shape the cutting-edge instructional programs to be offered at the Innovation Campus. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Finance and Operations at the Innovation Campus, the Associate Director of Finance Operations & Analysis will be responsible for managing accounting, finance, and compliance functions and providing data-rich and intuitive financial reporting and analysis for the Innovation Campus. This position will provide consultative support and policy guidance on budget and financial issues to Innovation Campus leaders and serve as a liaison with other University departments as needed to coordinate budget and financial activity. This position will help develop, implement, and oversee internal controls necessary to achieve full compliance with established state, university, and Virginia Tech Foundation financial guidelines and systems. This position will also provide support for the continual improvement efforts of the senior management area by supporting ad hoc projects through the application of various research, statistical, and analytical techniques. The Associate Director will be responsible for monitoring all Innovation Campus budgets, analyzing activity and trends, participating in the development of multi-year budget plans, and developing meaningful financial reports and analyses to enable the senior leadership team to manage budgets strategically. The successful candidate will be responsible for critically analyzing business needs, policies, procedures, providing data analysis and reporting, and making recommendations to enhance the Innovation Campus' financial capabilities and execute creative approaches to complex financial issues. The successful candidate will be comfortable creating and maintaining complex financial models, have strong communication skills, and become a respected and valued business partner.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounting, finance, and compliance functions for the Innovation Campus.
  • Provide data-rich and intuitive financial reporting and analysis.
  • Offer consultative support and policy guidance on budget and financial issues to Innovation Campus leaders.
  • Serve as a liaison with other University departments to coordinate budget and financial activity.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee internal controls for compliance with financial guidelines.
  • Monitor all Innovation Campus budgets and analyze activity and trends.
  • Participate in the development of multi-year budget plans.
  • Develop meaningful financial reports and analyses for senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Public or Business Administration, finance, or related field(s) or Bachelor's degree plus significant training and/or experience equivalent to this degree.
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision.
  • Substantial experience in financial operations.
  • Demonstrated budget or forecasting experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Advanced MS Office skills with an emphasis in modeling in Excel.

Benefits
