About the position

The Associate Director of Graduate Career Services at North Carolina State University is a pivotal role within the Department of Computer Science, which is recognized as one of the largest and most complex academic units in the College of Engineering. This position is responsible for delivering comprehensive career services tailored specifically for graduate students in the Computer Science program. The Associate Director will create and implement a coordinated set of strategies and processes to enhance the career development of these students, ensuring they are well-prepared for the job market. This includes developing and facilitating various career development programs such as individual and group sessions, workshops, and online training, as well as engaging with employers and alumni to enrich the career services offered. In addition to direct career services, the Associate Director will advise students on critical job search strategies, including resume writing, interview preparation, and networking. The role also involves planning and coordinating recruitment activities and events, such as career fairs and mock interview programs, to connect students with potential employers. The Associate Director will manage the Graduate Career Services suite, supervise staff, and serve as a liaison between students and employers, ensuring that all parties have access to the resources they need for successful career outcomes. The position requires a strong commitment to supporting graduate students through their career journeys, including conducting surveys and analyzing employment data to inform future strategies. The Associate Director will work closely with the Computer Science leadership and student organizations to foster a collaborative environment that promotes career development and community engagement among graduate students. This role is essential in building and maintaining relationships with employers and alumni, thereby enhancing internship and job opportunities for students.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Career Services for CSC Graduate Students
  • Create a coordinated set of strategies and processes for delivery of career services to CSC graduate students.
  • Develop and implement delivery methods for career development programs, including individual & group sessions, special events, workshops, certification programs, video and/or online training.
  • Engage employers and alumni in the implementation of events and programs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to coach CSC graduate students on job search strategies, networking, resume writing, cover letters, and interview preparation.
  • Plan and coordinate special recruitment activities and events such as career fairs and mock interview programs.
  • Act as a resource for Computer Science graduate students seeking internships and full-time jobs.
  • Manage day-to-day access and usage of Graduate Career Services suite, including interview rooms and drop-in office.
  • Supervise and train hourly and temp employees who assist with career services.
  • Attend meetings with and provide career advising to the Cybersecurity Scholarship for Service student cohort.
  • Support Department Processes & Events by conducting surveys and exit interviews of graduate students regarding internship and post-graduate employment.
  • Serve as a member of the Computer Science staff and actively support all departmental events and activities.
  • Coordinate with the CSC Graduate Student Association to provide events related to career development.
  • Work with the CSC Associate Director of External and Corporate Relations to develop a tiered-service strategy for providing premier service for ePartners.
  • Develop relationships with CSC alumni that will lead to internship and employment opportunities for CSC graduate students.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Counseling or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related professional experience providing career assistance to college students.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with vendors and partners to achieve results.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer/client relations skills.
