About the position

The Associate Director of Marketing and Communications at the University of Georgia's School of Law plays a pivotal role in promoting, branding, and publicizing the law school. This role will involve some after-hours and weekend work, particularly for social media monitoring and attendance at law school events, which are essential for maintaining a vibrant online presence and engaging with the community. The Associate Director will be responsible for producing a variety of print and digital publications, including the alumni magazine, e-communications, the annual dean's report, and various brochures to support admissions efforts. Additionally, the role includes capturing key moments at the law school through photography and videography, creating in-house videos for distribution across various platforms, and managing the law school's social media presence. This includes crafting and posting content that aligns with the strategic communications plan, monitoring social media for engagement and potential issues, and analyzing the effectiveness of social media campaigns. Furthermore, the Associate Director will promote a positive image of the law school by implementing the strategic communications plan, writing media releases, and pitching stories to media outlets. The role also involves drafting speeches for the dean, responding to media inquiries, and representing the law school at public functions. The Associate Director will work closely with UGA Marketing and Communications to ensure that the law school adheres to branding guidelines and crisis communication policies, thereby enhancing the overall image of both the law school and the university.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the production of the school's print and digital publications such as the alumni magazine, e-communications, the annual dean's report, assorted brochures, advertisements, and other messaging.
  • Capture key law school moments in photographs and videos.
  • Create in-house videos that will be shared on various law school platforms.
  • Promote a positive image of the law school by implementing the school's strategic communications plan and branding initiatives, writing media releases and articles, and pitching law school stories to media outlets.
  • Draft speeches for the dean and respond to inquiries from the media and general public.
  • Attend public functions as a law school representative and create branded items for law school use.
  • Manage the law school's social media presence, creating and regularly posting messages related to the school's strategic communications plan.
  • Oversee the messaging pipeline and ensure adherence to law school/UGA branding policies.
  • Continuously monitor social platforms for inappropriate comments or inquiries and provide regular analysis of social media activity.
  • Manage law school digital/social media marketing campaigns aimed at increasing prospective student applications, event attendance, and fundraising.
  • Update and create portions of the law school's website and messaging for the digital kiosk system.
  • Serve as a liaison to UGA Marketing and Communications, promoting the image of the law school and ensuring adherence to branding guidelines.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in a relevant field is required.
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and Premiere Pro) is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines is required.
  • Experience interacting with media, outside vendors, and various audiences is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Drupal, WordPress, and Mailchimp is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the Associated Press Stylebook is required.
  • Ability to work independently and conceptualize projects is necessary.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, and YouTube is essential.
  • Basic photography and videography skills, along with the ability to edit and develop finished projects, are required.
