About the position

The Associate Director of Project Management position at the State of Maine Project Management Office is a senior management role responsible for supervising Project Managers and collaborating with various state agencies to align policies and initiatives with strategic goals. This hybrid position allows for both remote and onsite work, primarily based in Augusta, Maine. The role emphasizes leadership in managing multiple concurrent projects, utilizing change management methodologies, and fostering a culture of innovation and creativity within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct Project Managers within the Project Management Office.
  • Collaborate with State of Maine agencies to propose policies and initiatives aligned with strategic goals.
  • Complete strategic program portfolios and manage resources of both contracted and state employees.
  • Track performance data and create policies, plans, and frameworks to achieve departmental strategic goals.
  • Act as a champion and catalyst for change within the Project Management Office and other state agencies.
  • Prioritize tasks to meet deliverables and commitments on time.
  • Facilitate events and programs to assist agencies in establishing and documenting organizational priorities.
  • Design and recommend structures that allow for the realization of organizational priorities.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of related post-secondary education and management work experience.
  • Management experience within a technology-related field preferred but not required.
  • In-depth knowledge of Project Management methodology and its application.
  • Ability to work effectively in a business and technical environment.
  • Effective use of project management methods and tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • General management skills including conflict resolution and negotiation skills.

  • Knowledge and experience creating large and comprehensive strategic policies and plans involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with business and IT partners on business requirements and timeframes.
  • Ability to rally support among peers and work effectively within challenging situations.

  • Ability to effectively articulate difficult ideas and concepts through clear and concise communication.
