About the position

The Associate Director of Student Conduct at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill plays a crucial role in overseeing the student conduct process, including the Honor System and adjudicating violations of the University's alcohol policy. This position supports the daily operations of the Student Conduct office, serves as a Hearing Officer, and acts as a liaison to graduate and professional schools. The Associate Director is responsible for advising students, faculty, and staff on complex university policies, managing crisis situations, and implementing educational initiatives to foster a positive campus environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the point of contact in the absence of the Director of Student Conduct.
  • Support the daily functioning of Student Conduct as a Hearing Officer and advisor to the Conduct Board.
  • Complete disciplinary history requests and participate in educational programming initiatives.
  • Act as a liaison to graduate and professional schools and programs.
  • Serve as the primary university investigator for student organizational misconduct.
  • Exercise sound discretion in advising and training students, faculty, and staff.
  • Implement complex University policies and record data for reporting purposes.
  • Manage crisis response and provide counseling and education related to student conduct.
  • Build relationships across the campus community and promote a collaborative work environment.

Requirements

  • Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required; or a Bachelor's degree with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Superior interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse student, faculty, or staff communities.
  • Deep understanding of conflict resolution and due process.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with diplomacy.
  • Proven ability to promote a collaborative work environment.
  • Experience managing crises and resolving complex tasks.
  • Expertise in university, state, and federal laws regarding student conduct, including the Clery Act and FERPA.
  • Experience with administrative disciplinary proceedings.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and case management databases.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration or related field.
  • At least five years of professional experience in a conduct or advising position in Higher Education.
  • Understanding of current trends in student conduct and higher education.
  • Experience with training development and facilitation.
  • Experience with case management and database management.
