About the position

The Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion, or the Center as known on campus, represents the importance of equity and inclusive excellence in every aspect of the Carnegie Mellon student experience. We are a team-oriented unit, with dual reporting lines to the Division of Student Affairs and the Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion & Inaugural Chief Diversity Officer. The Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion enhances the student experience by cultivating cultural engagement, fostering a sense of belonging, and challenging systems of privilege and oppression. We work to support the success of socially marginalized student populations by developing inclusive communities, facilitating active mentorship, and building personal empowerment. These outcomes are accomplished by collaboration with students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Our goal is to develop creative and engaging programmatic experiences, on and off campus that increase intercultural competency and promote inclusivity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and strategic oversight of the administrative and programmatic functions of The Center for Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Supervision of full-time and part-time professional staff.
  • Program planning and assignment of work-related tasks that align with the Center's strategic vision.
  • Management of day-to-day administrative operations.
  • Budget stewardship.
  • Develop a communication and marketing plan for connecting with faculty/staff, donors, and alumni to the life of the Center.
  • Coordinate student support during critical incident moments on campus or in the broader global community.
  • Craft and apply formative assessment programs to measure the impact of programs and initiatives in the Center.
  • Create assessment reports on programs and strategic initiatives for the Center.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required.
  • Minimum five years of dynamic leadership experience in the field of higher education required with a record of progressive leadership at the graduate and/or undergraduate level related to advancing diversity, inclusion, and equity work.
  • Strong understanding of contemporary diversity, equity, inclusion, multiculturalism concepts and issues.
  • Experience in diversity infrastructures with a steadfast commitment to equity, justice, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated success in leadership, supervision, and financial management.
  • Ability to use data to impact program development and organizational change.
  • Successful track record of leading projects in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Advanced skill in staff development and performance management.
  • Advanced interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
  • Capability to facilitate presentations and address large campus and community audiences.
  • Knowledge of national trends associated with the LGBTQA+ community and other historically underrepresented student populations in higher education.
  • Experience with fund development, donor relations, and alumni engagement at the undergraduate and graduate level.
