About the position

The Associate Director or Director of Advancement Communications at UIS is responsible for developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies that enhance the university's brand, support fundraising efforts, and strengthen alumni relations. This role involves creating various communication materials, managing digital assets, and collaborating with university stakeholders to effectively engage donors and alumni.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare digital assets, event materials, gift proposals, and other print materials for Advancement, including basic graphic design and typesetting.
  • Write and design print and online communications to highlight, recognize, and solicit donors; create donor newsletters and stewardship communications.
  • Prepare scripts and speaker details for events; organize staging, photography, and AV needs.
  • Establish and cultivate collaborative relationships with alumni, donors, students, campus groups, faculty, and staff.
  • Interview donors, alumni, and students for content in marketing/communications; work with the institutional communications team to write and edit relevant materials.
  • Prepare letters of inquiry, grants, proposals, and key correspondence to garner private support from major donors.
  • Enhance web presence and maintain donor communications; stay current on best practices in fundraising communications.
  • Track and analyze website statistics for optimization; measure mass solicitation analytics and provide counsel on strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • For Associate Director: 3-5 years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or graphic design.
  • For Director: 5+ years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, graphic design, and 1 year in fundraising communications.
  • Experience and ability to write compelling stories.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience writing articles and social media posts.
  • Experience in designing marketing materials including event logos and digital assets, or willingness to be trained.
  • Experience working in fundraising or nonprofit communications or marketing.
