About the position

The Associate Director - UX Research (Product Strategy) at AT&T is responsible for leading a team in the planning and execution of user research to inform product design and strategy. This role involves collaborating with leadership to define research strategies, mentoring UX researchers, and ensuring that research insights are effectively shared and utilized across the organization. The position is situated within a dynamic team focused on innovation and customer experience, requiring strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team in the planning and design of discovery and evaluative research for strategic product initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leadership to define product and UX research strategy and oversee user research execution.
  • Manage and mentor a team of UX researchers in operationalizing user research.
  • Direct UX researchers in designing and analyzing qualitative and quantitative studies to identify actionable insights.
  • Work with UX, product, and other stakeholders to identify and prioritize research projects.
  • Develop goals and success measures to gauge the effectiveness of research studies.
  • Forecast resource needs to support Design Technology business goals and objectives.
  • Innovate methods for sharing insights and democratizing research across AT&T.
  • Support design-thinking practices and workshop facilitation, translating research into experience requirements with product partners.

Requirements

  • 8+ years experience performing and leading UX research in a product-development environment.
  • 2+ years experience leading and developing UX researchers.
  • Expertise in qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies.
  • Experience with generative and evaluative research methods.
  • Proven record of uncovering, synthesizing, and distributing actionable insights that inform product strategy and decisions.
  • Experience facilitating cross-functional working sessions and/or workshops with product partners, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of agile and lean processes with product and development teams.
  • Strong understanding of the Jobs-to-be-done framework.
  • Understanding of developing requirements in product strategy and agile delivery using user research and design.
  • Experience with product requirements stemming from research and design.
  • Highly collaborative with peers, leadership, and direct reports; ability to engage partners to overcome barriers.
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
  • MS or PhD in a human behavior-related field or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Human Computer Interaction, Interactive Media, or Human Factors Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Expert-level, real-world experience in design (8-10 years) with project and team management.
