About the position

We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Associate Editor to join our editorial team at Atria Books, assisting the VP and Publisher at One Signal. The Associate Editor will play a crucial role in the editorial process, from manuscript development to final publication, ensuring that the works we publish meet the highest standards of quality and resonate with our audience. In this position, you will assist in the acquisition and evaluation of manuscripts, providing insightful feedback and working closely with authors to develop their work to its fullest potential. You will manage the editorial process, which includes structural editing, line editing, copyediting, and proofreading. As the primary point of contact for authors, you will offer guidance and support throughout the publishing process, collaborating with them to refine their voice and vision. Additionally, you will conduct market research to identify emerging trends and potential acquisition opportunities, providing recommendations to the editorial team based on your insights. You will oversee the production schedule of assigned titles, ensuring deadlines are met and coordinating with other departments such as design, production, marketing, and sales. Your role will also involve assisting senior editors in identifying and acquiring new projects, participating in acquisition meetings, preparing pitch materials, and negotiating contracts. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with other members of the editorial team, as well as production, publicity, and marketing, sharing insights and contributing to the overall success of all departments. You will also be responsible for reviewing proofs and galleys for accuracy, consistency, and quality, and contributing to the development of content strategies that align with the company's publishing goals. Administrative duties will include tracking submissions, maintaining editorial calendars, and preparing editorial reports for the One Signal imprint.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in book publishing, with a focus on editorial work.
  • Experience with both fiction and non-fiction is a plus.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and editorial software (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, InDesign).
  • A deep understanding of the book publishing process, market trends, and genre-specific knowledge.
