About the position

As an Associate Editor at Practical Law, you will play a crucial role in interpreting and explaining legal, practice, and market developments to our customers through online content. Reporting to the Director of Practical Law Litigation, your responsibilities will include monitoring and identifying relevant legal developments to cover in the Practical Law product offering. You will work closely with more experienced colleagues to maintain content that is up-to-date, ensuring it reflects current legal and market practices while meeting business objectives and customer needs. Additionally, you will draft new content for online publication under the guidance of your team. Your role will also involve conducting research projects and presenting your findings with proper analysis in a clear and succinct manner. A key aspect of your position will be training AI for use in our products and validating model performance, identifying necessary steps to improve performance as needed. You will provide additional support to the Practical Law editorial teams as required, contributing to a collaborative and dynamic work environment. This position is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic and ambitious, with a strong desire to learn and improve the efficiency of legal services. You will need to possess excellent writing and editing skills, with a keen attention to detail and a solid command of grammar and punctuation. Comfort with technology is essential, as you will be expected to adapt quickly to new tools and applications. The ability to organize and present information clearly, work efficiently under deadlines, and communicate effectively across various practice areas is crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and identify relevant legal developments to cover in the Practical Law product offering.
  • Maintain content to ensure it is up-to-date and reflects current legal and market practices.
  • Draft new content for online publication with support and supervision from colleagues.
  • Conduct research projects and present results with proper analysis and in a succinct manner.
  • Train AI for use in products and validate model performance to identify necessary improvements.
  • Provide additional support to the Practical Law editorial teams as needed.

Requirements

  • A J.D. and current license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • Up to 2 years' experience practicing as an attorney in a law firm and/or corporate law department or working in a Legal/Publishing environment.
  • Enthusiasm and ambition, with a desire to learn and improve the efficiency of legal services.
  • Skill and passion for writing and good editing skills, including close attention to detail and strong technical drafting skills.
  • Comfort with technology, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to organize and present information in a clear and structured manner.
  • Ability to work efficiently and within deadlines and communicate effectively across Practical Law practice areas and teams.
  • Ability to work flexibly in an agile work environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse teams of people.
