About the position

The cookbook team at America's Test Kitchen is seeking an experienced recipe developer to join their ranks as an Associate Editor. This role is primarily based in the test kitchen, where the successful candidate will engage in a variety of tasks that revolve around recipe development and editorial contributions. The ideal candidate will be a team player who is detail-oriented, precise, and capable of managing multiple projects with firm deadlines across various departments. The position requires a blend of creativity and practicality, as the Associate Editor will need to research recipes, cookbook concepts, and relevant food interests to inform their development work and inspire the larger team. In this role, you will be responsible for generating creative and delicious recipe ideas that align with the framework of your assigned projects. This requires a unique ability to thrive within constraints, think outside the box, and adopt a collaborative “yes, and” approach to development. Active participation in peer development is crucial, as you will contribute constructive feedback during tastings and brainstorming sessions while also being open to receiving feedback from others. You will need to work independently to plan your weekly and daily testing strategies, optimizing your kitchen time while respecting the workflows of other departments. Clear communication with editors regarding timelines and deadlines is essential, as is the diligence to submit assigned work punctually. Additionally, you will be expected to support team members as needed, whether through prep work or recipe development assistance. Writing short-form essays to accompany recipe development and taking on further writing projects as assigned will also be part of your responsibilities.
