About the position

The Associate Electrical Engineer position at Sargent & Lundy involves working in a project team environment focused on the detailed electrical design and project management of high voltage substation projects. The role includes project conceptualization, work planning, and execution, with responsibilities that encompass troubleshooting and solving various electrical engineering issues. The position also requires preparing technical reports and offers opportunities for professional development through peer-learning and collaboration with experienced engineers. The role supports a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for flexibility in work location.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in project conceptualization and work planning.
  • Execute project tasks related to high voltage substation design.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot electrical engineering issues.
  • Prepare technical reports that meet client requirements and S&L formats.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and designers in a project team environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 1 or more years of experience in the power or electric utility industry.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 or more years of experience in the design of substations 138kV and above.
  • Ability to prepare substation grounding calculations and other related calculations.
  • Experience with physical layout and protection & controls.
  • Ability to develop substation single line diagrams and related diagrams.
  • Familiarity with ANSI/IEEE/NEMA standards related to substation design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
