About the position

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking Associate Engineers - Chemical to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site. The Associate Engineer will implement solutions to mechanical, chemical, electrical, and/or nuclear needs to meet standards set by the Department of Energy (DOE) for the Savannah River Mission Completion project. This role is crucial in developing conventional engineering and scientific solutions to technical tasks or project objectives, ensuring compliance with the specific methodologies and requirements of the Department. In this position, the Associate Engineer will learn about SRMC and the specific Department systems, methodologies, and requirements necessary for accomplishing tasks. The role involves assisting more senior engineering personnel in performing related activities in more complex tasks, thereby gaining valuable experience and knowledge in the field. The Associate Engineer will accept delegated technical responsibility for a limited phase of a scientific or engineering program, supporting engineers or scientists in performing related phases of a program. Additionally, the Associate Engineer will assist in studies, development, testing, and analysis of designs, processes, or procedures related to a limited phase of a system or program. This position is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or those nearing graduation to start their careers in chemical engineering within a reputable organization that plays a significant role in environmental remediation and nuclear operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop conventional engineering and scientific solutions to technical tasks or project objectives.
  • Learn SRMC and specific Department systems, methodologies, and requirements for accomplishing tasks.
  • Assist more senior engineering personnel in performing related activities in more complex tasks.
  • Accept delegated technical responsibility for a limited phase of a scientific or engineering program.
  • Support engineers or scientists performing related phases of a program.
  • Assist in studies, development, testing and analysis of designs, processes, or procedures related to a limited phase of a system or program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university; or currently working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university with expected graduation by August 31, 2025.
  • Sound technical knowledge base of discipline's standard concepts, principles, and techniques with the ability to apply formal training.
  • Solid problem solving skills.
  • Able to communicate in a clear and professional manner with various levels of employees to include explaining technical details to a non-technical person.
  • GPA of 2.8 or higher.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous Internship with Savannah River Site or other related work experience while obtaining a degree is preferred.
