About the position

The Test & Evaluation (T&E) Assistant Engineer is responsible for supporting the Mechanical Engineering T&E department in successfully supporting the Ship Comprehensive Test Plan. The successful candidate will perform duties that include, but are not limited to the following: Develop, witness, evaluate, submit, and maintain stage 2 installation and 3-7 operational Combat Systems tests involving Ordnance Handling, and Electronics/Communications Systems. Support Hull, Mechanical, Electrical, and Combat Systems testing during various ship activation periods, including sea trials. Provide test support to multiple ship programs. Research ECP's (change proposals) for impact to the test program. Work closely with manufacturing, ATT and Navy personnel throughout the development, execution, and approval cycle of the test program. Help resolve emergent test procedure issues on the deck plates. Assist in the development and maintenance of all T&E BMDA responsible documents.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in an engineering/manufacturing environment recommended.
  • Significant experience in a shipyard test environment.
  • Ability to interpret test requirements, and perform required calculations.
  • Broad knowledge of general ship design, construction and test program processes.
  • Demonstrated organizational and people skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and effectiveness with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to support temporary off shift or second shift tests and Sea Trials.

Nice-to-haves

  • BIW Apprentice or 2 year technical degree in Marine Engineering.
  • Navy Combat Systems related or Shipboard Electrical experience.
  • Prior experience with BIW system diagrams and Navy Ship Specifications.
