About the position

The Associate, Equity Research, Biotechnology role at Scotiabank involves contributing to the success of the US Research Department by supporting senior analysts in various research and analytical tasks. The position focuses on developing forecasting models, drafting research reports, and maintaining up-to-date information on companies within the biotechnology sector. The role emphasizes a customer-focused culture and compliance with regulations while promoting a high-performance and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Senior Analyst with day-to-day responsibilities including developing and updating forecasting models.
  • Maintain current up-to-date information for identified companies and monitor domestic and global economic developments.
  • Review daily news services for relevant information impacting macro, industry-specific, and company drivers.
  • Communicate with company management to stay informed regarding events that may impact company performance.
  • Draft research reports communicating views regarding company-specific recommendations and commentary on economic developments.
  • Work closely with Senior Analyst in launching new company coverage and developing new industry and thematic research reports.
  • Partner with technology colleagues and analysts in the US, Canada, and Latin America on industry and company reports and client events.
  • Assist sales and trading personnel with communications to investors.
  • Facilitate company marketing efforts by coordinating meetings with industry and corporate contacts.
  • Understand the Bank's risk appetite and culture in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Pursue effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank's Values and Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in life sciences or chemistry-related discipline is required.
  • Strong ability to digest primary medical and scientific literature and presentations.
  • Command of Microsoft Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • General understanding of financial statements and building financial projections is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage several ongoing projects simultaneously with extreme attention to detail.
  • FINRA Series 7, 63, 86, and 87 designations will be required but are not necessary in advance of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Life science Ph.D. or M.D. is preferred, but not required.
