About the position

Smithfield Foods is seeking a motivated Associate Financial Analyst to join our Supply Chain Finance team. This role is crucial in maintaining the financial integrity of our $15 billion company by applying GAAP principles and conducting thorough financial analyses. The successful candidate will be responsible for examining financial data to ensure accurate costing, identifying trends, and uncovering opportunities for performance improvement against established targets. This position offers a unique opportunity to work within various functional areas of the supply chain, including transportation, warehousing, procurement, and inventory planning. As an Associate Financial Analyst, you will prepare, review, and distribute monthly financial reports for the transportation, warehousing, or procurement divisions. You will determine the cost of operations by establishing standard costs and collecting operational data. Your analytical skills will be put to the test as you identify the financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts. You will guide the cost analysis process by establishing and enforcing policies and procedures, providing insights into trends, and recommending actionable strategies based on your analyses. In addition to your core responsibilities, you will be involved in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for assigned functional areas. Confidentiality is paramount, as you will be protecting sensitive financial information. You will also assist in developing management reports through your functional knowledge of our ERP systems, including SAP BI, SAP BPC, and SAP General Ledger, as well as our transportation system. The role may also involve preparing ad-hoc reports and participating in special studies or teams to evaluate key opportunities for the company. Compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley internal reporting requirements is essential in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review and distribute monthly financial reports for the transportation, warehousing, or procurement divisions of Smithfield Foods.
  • Determine cost of operations by establishing standard costs and collecting operational data.
  • Identify financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with plan and forecast.
  • Guide cost analysis process by establishing and enforcing policies and procedures; providing trends; explaining processes and techniques; recommending actions.
  • Recommend actions by analyzing and interpreting data and making comparative analyses; studying proposed changes in methods and monetizing opportunities.
  • Responsible for month-end, quarter-end and year-end close for assigned functional areas.
  • Protect operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Assist in developing management reports through functional knowledge of our ERP system, including SAP BI, SAP BPC & SAP General Ledger, as well as our transportation system.
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports and potential assignment to special studies/teams to assist management in evaluating key opportunities for the company.
  • Ensure compliance with all Sarbanes-Oxley internal reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Suite: including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical and variance analysis skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ERP systems, particularly SAP BW 4HANA.
