About the position

The Associate General Counsel for Mission and International Law at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) serves as the Division Chief and senior attorney, providing legal guidance on intelligence law, international law, and homeland security. This role involves advising on policy creation and execution, overseeing legal matters related to geospatial intelligence, and coordinating with various government agencies. The position requires a strong background in law, leadership skills, and the ability to navigate complex legal issues in support of NGA's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Division Chief for Mission and International Law in the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) at NGA.
  • Act as a senior attorney regarding intelligence law, international law, and homeland security.
  • Provide legal advice on policy creation and execution in support of the National System for Geospatial Intelligence (NSG) and Allied System for Geospatial Intelligence (ASG).
  • Advise on legal matters involving domestic and international geospatial regulations.
  • Supervise OGC attorneys in the Mission and International Law areas, including Regional Counsel.
  • Participate in the management of OGC as a member of the Senior Steering Group (SSG).
  • Coordinate NGA activities with other DoD, Intelligence, or Executive Branch Agencies, and Congress.

Requirements

  • J.D. or L.L.B. from an ABA-accredited law school and an active member of a Bar in good standing.
  • At least seven years of post-licensure practice as an attorney.
  • Expert knowledge of U.S. and International laws impacting NGA missions.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills in a legal context.
  • Ability to effectively communicate legal advice to senior officials and resolve complex legal problems.
  • Understanding of scientific and technological activities related to NGA operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Postgraduate degree (LL.M.) in national security law, space law, international law, or a related field.
