About the position

CenterPoint Energy is seeking a motivated Entry-Level Instructional Designer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating engaging educational materials and courses that enhance learning experiences for our employees. You will work closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders to design, develop, and implement instructional content that meets the needs of our diverse workforce. Your contributions will play a vital role in ensuring that our training programs are effective, relevant, and aligned with our company objectives. As an Instructional Designer, you will develop and design instructional materials and courses based on specific learning objectives. You will collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the content, utilizing instructional design models and best practices to create effective learning experiences. Conducting needs assessments and learner analyses will be essential to tailor content to the target audience, ensuring that all training meets regulatory and safety compliance requirements. In addition to creating new materials, you will review and revise existing instructional content to improve its quality and effectiveness. You will assist in integrating multimedia and interactive elements into course content, develop testing and evaluation instruments, and maintain a working knowledge of the business and available learning resources. You will work under supervision to define and manage project timelines, resources, deliverables, and competing priorities, consistently meeting deadlines while performing other assigned duties commensurate with your skill level.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and design instructional materials and courses based on learning objectives.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
  • Utilize instructional design models and best practices to create effective learning experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related field.
  • Internship or project experience in instructional design or e-learning development is preferred but not required.
  • Basic understanding of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and educational technologies.
  • Proficiency in instructional design principles and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with e-learning development tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret learning needs.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Creativity and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with multimedia production and editing tools.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories and instructional design models.
