Associate Investigator - Mechanical Design Engineer

The E&I Leveraged R&D Applied Engineering Team provides a broad range of specialized mechanical and electrical engineering expertise to advance the execution of new product and application engineering programs and improve the performance of E&I manufacturing assets. We are seeking an Associate Investigator-Mechanical Design Engineer with demonstrated experience in the design, development and integration of complex robotic (automated) machinery and industrial components.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering, design and integration support in a team specializing in the development of First-Of-A-Kind machinery and Application Engineering.
• Execute a wide range of technical tasks.
• Conceptual development of First-Of-A-Kind machinery and robotic systems.
• Rapid prototyping, testing and refinement of conceptual designs.
• Detailed design of mechanical systems and hardware.
• Precision assembly and testing of complex mechatronic systems.
• Document and present designs and project updates within the team and to customers.
• Manage multiple tasks for multiple stakeholders with frequent changes in scope and priority.
• Adhere to safety standards and procedures.
• Program automated equipment.

Requirements

• AS in Mechanical Engineering (BS preferred).
• 5+ years related design/engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience in the design, development and implementation of electro-mechanical products.
• Expertise in SolidWorks (preferred) or PTC Creo.
• 3D modeling of components and assemblies.
• 2D drawings for quote and fabrication.
• Experience with FDM additive manufacturing techniques, troubleshooting, material selection, and print optimization.
• Knowledge in the design and application of technologies used in machine design, such as Pneumatic actuators and control circuits.
• Experience with motion control systems and hardware.
• Familiarity with power transmission technologies.
• Knowledge of industrial sensors and feedback systems.
• Experience with Machine Vision, cameras and optics.
• Understanding of dynamic and static sealing technologies (o-rings, bellows, rotary feedthroughs, etc.).
• Familiarity with computer hardware, software and networking technologies.
• Experience in controls engineering, electrical design, and programming is a plus.
• Experience with machine wiring, PLC / HMI / SCADA systems, and industrial robotics.
• Ability to respectfully work in a culturally diverse environment.
