About the position

The Associate, Investment Banking, Energy position at Scotiabank involves preparing client presentations, financial modeling, and mentoring Analysts. The role requires progressively taking on increased responsibilities in live transactions and participating in business development under the guidance of senior members. The Associate will contribute to the team's success by ensuring individual goals and initiatives align with business strategies, while maintaining compliance with regulations and internal policies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare client presentations and financial models.
  • Mentor and supervise Analysts.
  • Evaluate and analyze the financial needs of corporate clients.
  • Develop and maintain effective industry relationships with legal counsel and clients.
  • Perform comprehensive financial statement analysis and create financial models.
  • Identify and develop business opportunities with clients.
  • Support transaction structuring and execution efforts.
  • Apply product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve financial objectives.
  • Develop junior bankers through active engagement and feedback.
  • Contribute to a high-performance and inclusive work environment.

Requirements

  • 2-5+ years' work experience in Investment Banking, Equity Research, or corporate finance.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Math, Economics, Science, or other quantitative or STEM subject.
  • Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis, accounting, and financial theory.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new situations and short deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with American Sign Language.
  • Knowledge of corporate finance and investment banking.
