About the position

The Associate IT Support Technician at West Virginia University Health System is responsible for providing technical support for personal computers and related hardware and software. This role involves installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting PC hardware and peripheral components, as well as providing training and assistance to end-users. The technician will also identify and resolve various technical issues, perform hardware repairs, and support network connections.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot PC hardware and peripheral components.
  • Install and verify correct operation of software packages, including operating systems and office programs.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to end-users.
  • Identify and resolve hardware, software, and operator problems.
  • Perform basic-to-moderate hardware repairs and refer complex issues to authorized service personnel.
  • Provide workstation-related support for end-users, including troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Install and test end-user computer hardware and software as assigned.
  • Maintain technical expertise through ongoing training and education.
  • Provide general support for network connections and inspections.
  • Coordinate projects and document issues, barriers, or risks to management.
  • Participate in mentoring, training, and development of other employees.
  • Accept on-call responsibilities and respond as defined by department policy.
  • Liaise with repair vendors for medical equipment and coordinate service contracts.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Information Technology or a technical-related field, or two years of experience in personal computer hardware and software support.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to various workloads and assignments.

Nice-to-haves

  • A+ Certification, CCNA, MCP, or MCSE preferred.
