About the position

The Associate Launch Application Software Engineer will be a key member of the Platforms engineering team at Kennedy Space Center, contributing to the development and support of software systems for NASA's Spaceport Command and Control System (SCCS). This role involves working on the software life cycle to support the launch of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft as part of NASA's Artemis program.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate, test, document, and support computer software and systems for the platforms engineering team.
  • Lead as a developer in an agile team conducting daily scrum meetings and biweekly sprints.
  • Write and test new software, shape design, and participate in peer reviews to meet NASA requirements.
  • Troubleshoot, improve, and maintain software based on internal, external, and user feedback under a CMMI compliant process.
  • Participate in design panels, technical assessments, and analysis tasks to evaluate impacts of new capabilities and changes.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or related field with at least 4 years of relevant software life cycle experience.
  • Familiarity with the software life cycle involving design, development, testing, integration, delivery, and maintenance.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as C++, Java, or Python.
  • Ability to produce technical/design documentation and well-documented software.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with NASA's Trick Simulation Environment.
  • Familiarity with Jenkins automation server.
  • Knowledge of Perl programming language and MATLAB Simulink.
  • Experience with EtherNet/IP Scanner Developers Kit (ESDK).
  • Experience with Linux and Windows OS, including kernel, threading, networking, and virtual machines.
