About the position

As an Associate Legal News Editor at LexisNexis Legal & Professional, you will play a crucial role in monitoring and identifying significant legal developments, crafting news articles for daily news production, and providing tactical guidance to your team. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about legal reporting and possess strong writing skills. You will be responsible for gathering news and relevant official documents related to events and developments in assigned practice areas, ensuring that the most pertinent information is selected for reporting. Your ability to digest and explain complex legal topics will be essential as you write articles for both online and print publications, meeting all deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards. In this role, you will also review analytics related to web-based content usage, which will help inform your focus and direction for future publications. The position allows for flexibility, as it can be performed from anywhere within the United States, promoting a healthy work/life balance. Responsibilities

  • Gathering news and identifying relevant official documents regarding events and developments in the assigned practice areas
  • Selecting which developments to report
  • Digesting and providing explanation on court opinions and other litigation-related documents following guidance provided by manager
  • Writing news articles for daily upload to website and inclusion in print publications
  • Meeting all deadlines while producing publications in a timely manner
  • Reviewing all available analytics of web-based usage of content to help drive content focus

Requirements

  • Possess hard news reporting experience and excellent news judgment
  • Have a Bachelor's degree in journalism/communications (relevant experience considered without a degree)
  • Have the ability to multitask and reprioritize throughout the day
  • Have the ability to understand and explain complex legal topics
  • Be a skilled and speedy news writer
  • Have the ability to network with attorney sources, use online and other resources to gather information
  • Possess excellent interviewing skills
  • Be able to work Eastern time zone hours
  • Have the ability to work independently
