About the position

The Associate Legal Officer, Research Integrity at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center serves as in-house legal and regulatory counsel on research integrity matters. This role involves providing strategic vision for the research integrity program, supporting research misconduct committees, and ensuring compliance with federal and state laws governing research integrity. The position requires strong legal analytical skills, effective communication, and the ability to work in a diverse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as in-house legal and regulatory counsel on research integrity matters.
  • Work closely with the Senior Legal Officer & Executive Director, Research Compliance, and the Research Integrity Officer.
  • Support various research misconduct committees.
  • Prepare research misconduct assessment, inquiry, and investigation reports.
  • Assist with research misconduct proceedings and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Assist with reporting and communications related to research integrity and misconduct matters.
  • Develop policies and procedures and training related to research integrity matters.
  • Provide legal research, analyses, and guidance on research integrity issues.
  • Monitor and analyze new legislation/regulations impacting research integrity.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Two years of legal experience in a law firm or healthcare organization.
  • Licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas within 1 year of job entry.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in a biomedical science.
  • Two years of legal experience in a law firm, health care organization, academic medical center, or related entity.
  • Biomedical research experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with laws governing basic science, animal and human subjects, and FDA-regulated research.
