About the position

The Associate Management & Budget Analyst position at Mecklenburg County is a vital role that provides professional and technical support to the financial, budgeting, and administration functions of assigned programs or operations. Under general supervision, this position specializes in budget preparation, analysis, and support work for Countywide budgeting functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and collecting comprehensive information necessary for the creation of the County Budget. This includes conducting research, data collection, analysis, and synthesis of information used to develop the County budgets, utilizing historical data, capital improvement projects, and forecasts of future expenditures and revenues. In this role, the analyst will prepare detailed information through research and calculations, such as salary and benefit spreadsheets, and will analyze and recommend funding levels. The position also involves participating in presenting budget recommendations to the County Manager and the Board of County Commissioners, conducting additional research and explanations upon request, and incorporating recommendations and directives into the budget process. Furthermore, the analyst will engage in the administration, amendment, and execution of the adopted budget, perform operational research, productivity analyses, and management studies, and develop recommendations for changes in County policies and procedures. The role requires the preparation and maintenance of a variety of financial and statistical reports related to the budget and the financial status of the County, including quarterly financial reports, executive summaries, and budget summaries. This position is essential for ensuring that the County's financial resources are managed effectively and transparently, contributing to the overall success of Mecklenburg County's operations and services to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and collect comprehensive information for the creation of the County Budget.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year performing professional financial and administrative work.
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field.
  • May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
