About the position

The Associate Manager of Data Governance at SC Johnson plays a crucial role in supporting organization-wide data governance activities. This individual contributor position is part of the Global Information Security Governance function within the Legal department. The role focuses on managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets, implementing an enterprise data governance framework, and ensuring adherence to data policies and standards across various business functions. The Associate Manager will collaborate with leadership to enhance the quality and value of data assets while responding to regulatory requirements and supporting strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of an enterprise data governance implementation roadmap, emphasizing data protection and stewardship.
  • Assist in maintaining the data governance policy, data protection standards, and adoption requirements across the enterprise.
  • Contribute to the rollout of an enterprise-wide data governance framework, focusing on improving the protection of sensitive data.
  • Help define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure accountability for the stewardship of information assets.
  • Act as a liaison between business/functional areas, master data management, and technology teams to ensure data-related requirements are well understood.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining inventory and data flow diagrams of enterprise information maps.
  • Support senior management in achieving their objectives and resolving issues escalated from data governance representatives.
  • Stay informed about industry data governance best practices to drive continuous improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience in data governance/data management; OR Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience in data governance/data management.
  • Experience in data management practices, including data retention policies and governance.
  • Experience managing security controls to protect confidential information across business functions.
  • Ability to assist with compliance reviews against policies and standards.
  • Demonstrated track record of improvements in data protection practices and compliance.
  • Proficiency in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across business functions.
  • Experience collaborating with data owners and stewards to achieve data governance objectives.
  • Project management skills with attention to detail and adherence to timelines.
  • Ability to support change management initiatives and effective communication strategies.
  • Understanding of information security industry best practices and standards (such as NIST, ISO, COBIT).

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years of experience in general data management practices.
  • Experience in assisting with compliance reviews against policies and standards.
