About the position

The Associate Manager, Event Sales at the New England Aquarium is responsible for selling event spaces for social events, generating revenue, and promoting the aquarium's mission to protect oceans. This role involves managing event sales, seeking new clients, and coordinating with various teams to ensure successful events. The position offers a hybrid work schedule and requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Seek, develop, and maintain client sales and service for social event markets.
  • Make recommendations for advertising and networking to achieve sales goals.
  • Sell spaces, menus, add-on programs, and A/V equipment to clients.
  • Process all internal event requests for the aquarium.
  • Cultivate hotel referrals for new business through sales calls.
  • Negotiate and execute proposals and contracts with clients and vendors.
  • Provide timely and effective communication with clients and vendors.
  • Manage leads and respond to market inquiries, proposals, and contract requests.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and onsite personnel to ensure successful events.
  • Conduct meetings and site visits with clients.
  • Attend industry networking events to represent the aquarium and drive business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (Hotel/Hospitality preferred) or at least 3 years of related sales and/or event planning experience.
  • Experience sourcing and developing new clients preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, coordinate multiple complex tasks, and pay strict attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team, and build working relationships with clients and vendors.
  • Effective sales techniques and a working knowledge of maintaining a client database, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.
