About the position

The Sr. Portfolio Manager at CIBC is responsible for underwriting and portfolio management, ensuring effective risk management activities in alignment with the bank's risk culture. This role serves as the primary contact for clients regarding portfolio issues, oversees client onboarding and closing processes, and maintains client relationships through regular communication and support. The position also involves mentoring junior team members and providing necessary data for risk management and compliance purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the client's primary contact/resource/advocate for portfolio-related issues.
  • Lead renewal activities with existing clients, collaborating with Relationship Managers (RMs).
  • Engage in periodic client calls and visits for assigned portfolio.
  • Maintain Salesforce pipeline for existing clients.
  • Drive the loan closing process with internal teams and Portfolio Coordinator.
  • Work with CIS Relationship Support to update/correct data issues.
  • Address upcoming maturities and annual reviews on time.
  • Ensure timely collection of customer financial reporting and covenants.
  • Support closing team in collecting outstanding loan document exceptions.
  • Prepare CAMP reports and quarterly trend cards/reviews.
  • Complete quarterly SOX controls and ensure accurate risk ratings.
  • Respond to approval requests for overdrafts, manual wires, and ACH suspensions.
  • Review borrowing base availability and approve loan advances.
  • Coordinate onboarding and deposit account opening activities.
  • Consult with RMs on cross-sell opportunities.
  • Mentor and provide training support to Associates and Sr. Associates.
  • Supply required data for Credit Review or regulatory exams.

Requirements

  • Experience in portfolio management and underwriting.
  • Strong client service and relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency in Salesforce and financial reporting tools.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior staff.
  • Knowledge of risk management practices and compliance regulations.
