About the position

The Associate Merchant is responsible for supporting the delivery of key financial metrics within their department, focusing on merchandising strategy, business analysis, and cross-functional collaboration. This role involves overseeing Assistant Merchant tasks and ensuring effective execution of merchandising strategies to meet financial goals.

Responsibilities

  • Support Merchant or Merchandise Manager and merchandising team on all day-to-day functions for assigned category.
  • Compile seasonal insights and develop merchandise strategy and roadmap in partnership with Merchant/Merchandise Manager.
  • Analyze business and key KPIs weekly and seasonally, presenting recommendations to leads.
  • Own seasonal buys and style ranking for area of ownership, creating pre-season promotional strategies with Merchant/Merchandise Manager.
  • Manage product tracking for assigned category to ensure timely delivery and escalate risks to management.
  • Develop and maintain cross-functional relationships with various departments to collaborate on seasonal buying processes.
  • Conduct competitive analysis to understand market trends and report findings and opportunities.
  • Oversee execution of assistant level tasks including sample tracking, report preparation, and purchase order management.
  • Manage email correspondence effectively, escalating concerns as necessary.
  • Create a positive work environment by coaching and mentoring team members, setting clear objectives, and maintaining open communication.
  • Maintain seasonal selling reports and distribute to cross-functional partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in fashion merchandising, business, or related field.
  • 2-3 years merchandising or retail buying experience.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, administrative, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of retail math.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint and Excel).
