About the position

The Associate Multimedia Journalist is responsible for producing, reporting, shooting, writing, voicing, editing, and feeding news production content across all platforms. This role requires a clear, engaging, and meaningful approach to news delivery, adhering to the traditional tenets of journalism. The journalist will work under general supervision, ensuring that the content effectively combines text, images, sound, video, and graphics to engage news consumers. The position is based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and operates on a regular full-time schedule, typically from Monday to Friday, 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with some after-hours work expected. The journalist may also be required to work non-typical schedules, including weekends and special events, and may face inclement weather conditions while on the job. Additionally, the role involves physical demands, such as lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and report news content for various platforms.
  • Shoot, write, voice, and edit news stories.
  • Feed news production content in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to journalistic standards and ethics in reporting.
  • Collaborate with team members to create engaging news content.
  • Work under pressure to meet deadlines for news delivery.
  • Utilize multimedia tools and equipment for news gathering and editing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in broadcast communication, telecommunication and film, or journalism with some multimedia reporting experience; OR an associate's degree with two years of multimedia reporting experience; OR a high school diploma or GED with four years of multimedia reporting experience.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age at the time of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with live shots and TVU or Live U.
