At MITRE, we are seeking a creative Operations Research Analyst, Statistician, or Data Scientist to join our Operations Research department. This role is an opportunity to work within a large team of over 60 operations research professionals, including nearly 30 PhDs, who are dedicated to providing thought leadership on a variety of strategic and technical issues. Our team performs analyses that enable our sponsors to make more effective decisions, leads internal research and development activities to introduce new technical capabilities into the public sector, and serves as trusted advisors to government sponsors on various technical topics. In this position, you will apply advanced analytical and mathematical techniques to address complex policy and acquisition decisions, maximizing operational effectiveness and efficiency while achieving high-quality engineering solutions. You will be responsible for presenting results in an intuitive and actionable manner that can be understood by all sponsor audiences, regardless of their technical expertise. The role requires both independent work and collaboration with a team of technical staff, and you will need to thrive in a hybrid work environment that necessitates in-person presence. Our work spans various sectors, including military logistics, radio-spectrum frequency management, healthcare delivery, cybersecurity analytics, fraud detection, satellite planning, homeland security, and civilian aviation. We utilize advanced analytic techniques such as longitudinal analysis, large-scale integer programming, metaheuristics, agent-based modeling, reinforcement learning, predictive modeling, mathematical modeling, forecasting, machine learning, optimization, statistics, probability modeling, Bayesian analysis, and various types of simulation to tackle the nation’s toughest challenges.
