About the position

Team Rubicon (TR) is seeking an Associate, Operations Support (Planning) who will play a crucial role in enhancing the organization's ability to respond to disasters effectively. This position requires collaborative and cooperative work within the team and across various functional teams, managing competing priorities while keeping multiple stakeholders informed of decisions. The Associate will provide functional support to the Planning team and will also assist in areas such as Field Leadership, Communications, Training, Mobilization, and Logistics. The role emphasizes connecting geographical branch teams with the functional areas they are assigned to, promoting a unified team approach. The Associate will be responsible for motivating and inspiring coworkers, contractors, volunteer leaders, and volunteers to enhance Team Rubicon's service delivery within their assigned geographies. Every day in this role presents challenges, but it also brings new opportunities for growth within an organization that is rapidly gaining recognition in disaster response. The Associate will execute Team Rubicon's strategy across a designated area, participate in developing standards, policies, and processes for response, recovery, and mitigation operations, and support localized responses and operations management. Additionally, the Associate will mentor functional Greyshirt volunteer leaders, assist in planning operations throughout all phases of the disaster cycle, and coordinate After-Action Reports (AAR) to capture and implement organizational learning from disaster response operations and exercise scenarios.

Responsibilities

  • Execute Team Rubicon's strategy across a designated area to enhance rapid and local disaster response capabilities.
  • Participate in the development of standards, policies, and processes for response, recovery, and mitigation operations.
  • Connect the Branch with the representative functional leader through matrixed reporting and coordination.
  • Support localized responses and operations management.
  • Mentor functional Greyshirt volunteer leaders.
  • Assist in the planning of operations in all phases of the disaster cycle.
  • Coordinate and ensure execution of After-Action Reports (AAR) to capture and implement organizational learning from disaster response operations and exercise scenarios.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of relevant professional experience in military, disaster response, emergency management, or first responder fields.
  • Proven record of personnel management experience such as recruiting, managing, training, and developing employees and volunteers.
  • Experience with technology tools and remote working for communicating and coordinating with a large network of TR staff members, Greyshirts (volunteers), and external stakeholders.
  • Successful past performance in leading volunteers is highly desired.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge and experience with Power BI, data management, and project management platforms.
  • Knowledge and experience with ArcGIS and location information visualization platforms.
