About the position

The Department of Psychiatry within the School of Medicine at UC San Diego is seeking an Associate or Full Professor in Neuromodulation Research. This position is designed for candidates who are committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a rigorous program of high-quality research focused on Interventional Psychiatry, particularly in the area of neuromodulation and novel treatments for psychiatric disorders. In addition to research responsibilities, the appointee will also engage in teaching, which may include lecturing and mentoring students in various educational programs offered by the department. The position will be structured as a 50% Ladder Rank and 50% In-Residence appointment, contingent upon the candidate's background and experience, with the possibility of securing extramural funding. Candidates must be aware that as a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, there are limitations on outside professional activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a rigorous program of high-quality research in neuromodulation and novel treatments for psychiatric disorders.
  • Engage in teaching activities, including lecturing and mentoring in educational programs.
  • Contribute to clinical care of patients as required by the position.
  • Maintain an independent extramurally-funded research program, such as NIH R01 or similar grants.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact journals and contribute to the academic community.

Requirements

  • PhD in health sciences or related fields and/or MD degree or equivalent.
  • Board certified or Board eligible in related field for candidates with an MD.
  • Eligibility for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit.
  • 5+ years of clinical, translational, and/or basic research experience.
  • Independent extramurally-funded research program with at least 1 grant and/or publication in neuromodulation research.
  • 5+ years of teaching and/or mentorship experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Authored a minimum of 5 research articles reporting clinical trials of neuromodulation treatments.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $107,300 - $235,400, with annual negotiations and potential additional compensation through the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.
