About the position

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is seeking applications for the position of Associate or Full Professor as part of a strategic cluster hiring initiative focused on Enhancing Transdisciplinary Materials Research. This role aims to recruit five faculty members who will contribute to advancing research in key areas of materials science and engineering. The successful candidates will be expected to develop internationally recognized research programs, attract and supervise graduate students, and collaborate across disciplines to enhance the university's research capabilities and educational offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an externally funded and internationally recognized research program.
  • Attract and supervise graduate students.
  • Develop innovative curriculum and teach effectively at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Collaborate with faculty across disciplinary boundaries.
  • Support the university's commitment to student success and research excellence.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Expertise in areas of Materials Science and Engineering, specifically in the identified key areas.
  • Record of developing scholarly products critical to advancing research.
  • Demonstrated leadership in high-quality, collaborative research with a strong record of external funding.
  • Ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of first-generation and low-income students.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in transdisciplinary collaboration in research.
  • Strong publication record in high-impact journals.
  • Previous experience in teaching at the university level.
