About the position

The Associate or Senior Editor for Nature Communications will play a crucial role in the editorial team, focusing on high-quality scientific research in the fields of structural biology, biochemistry, or biophysics. This position involves managing the editorial process, making informed decisions on manuscript submissions, and engaging with the scientific community to enhance the journal's impact and reach.

Responsibilities

• Handling original research papers and collaborating with other editors on the editorial process.
• Making well-reasoned editorial decisions based on expert advice.
• Determining the representation of their subject in the journal.
• Liaising with editors at other journals and experts in the scientific community.
• Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.
• Commissioning and editing Reviews, and writing Editorials.

Requirements

• A PhD (or equivalent) in a field of protein sciences.
• Significant research experience is preferred but not essential.
• A thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fluent in English (written and spoken).
• Ability to assess the novelty, context, and implications of research submissions.

Nice-to-haves

• Editorial experience is not required but is a plus.
