About the position

As an Associate Paralegal at Freeport-McMoRan, you will play a crucial role in supporting attorneys and legal managers with various day-to-day legal tasks. Your responsibilities will include conducting legal research, managing deadlines and projects, and assisting with maintaining entity status. You will also be involved in entity formations, qualifications, and withdrawals, while interfacing with outside counsel and other parties. Collaboration with co-workers and other department personnel is essential, as you will prepare legal documents to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Confidentiality is paramount in this role, as you will be expected to handle sensitive information with care. In addition to the above, you will identify, gather, and review information to comply with information requests, research requests, due diligence, or to investigate factual evidence of transactions, events, proceedings, or cases. You will prepare reports, summaries, tables, charts, or diagrams to effectively display this information. Drafting corporate minutes and other complex corporate documents will also be part of your duties. You will work closely with the Corporate Secretary Team to ensure that all pertinent information, documents, and records are organized and maintained in centralized Legal Department electronic files. Your role will also involve assisting with the management of U.S. and international legal entities to ensure they remain in good standing. You will perform data entry, run reports, and help maintain the entity management database and other relevant databases. Additionally, you will interface with in-house counsel and staff, outside counsel, contractors, government agencies, and business clients on legal matters or assigned projects. Other duties may be assigned as needed, making this a dynamic and engaging position.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in paralegal studies OR Paralegal Certificate from an ABA approved program.
  • Two years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of database programs, including Point.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent knowledge of reading, writing, grammar, spelling, punctuation, proofreading, and formatting.
