About the position

As an Associate Patient Care Coordinator at Owensboro Health, you will play a vital role in enhancing the health outcomes of the communities we serve. This position is part of a strategic partnership with Optum, where you will provide essential support to the Owensboro health account. Owensboro Health is a nonprofit system that boasts over 200 providers across more than 20 locations, including three outpatient facilities, a certified medical fitness facility, a surgical weight loss center, and the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center. This full-time position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, with shifts scheduled between 5:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Flexibility is essential, as you may be required to work occasional overtime and will work a half day on Saturdays every 2-3 months. The office is located at Owensboro Regional Hospital, 1201 Pleasant Valley Rd, Owensboro, KY, 42303. You will receive comprehensive training, including six weeks of paid on-the-job training, which consists of two weeks of on-site EMR training and one-on-one mentorship, followed by an additional four weeks of mentorship aligned with your schedule. In this role, you will be responsible for greeting patients, coordinating patient flow to minimize wait times, assisting with intake processes, and collecting co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles. You will also process walk-in patients and visitors, confirm eligibility, verify insurance benefits, and ensure that all necessary demographic and billing information is accurately entered into the computer system. Additionally, you will schedule appointments, explain financial responsibilities, counsel patients regarding insurance benefits, and communicate effectively with insurance companies, external agencies, patients, physicians, and team members. The fast-paced environment requires strong multitasking abilities and excellent communication skills to build strong relationships with our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and coordinate patient flow to reduce wait times.
  • Assist patients with intake processes and collect co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles.
  • Process walk-in patients and visitors.
  • Confirm eligibility and verify insurance benefits.
  • Ensure all necessary demographic and billing information is obtained and entered in the computer system timely and accurately.
  • Schedule appointment times using computerized scheduling programs.
  • Explain financial responsibilities for services received, payment options, and collection procedures to patients and/or parties responsible for payment.
  • Counsel patients regarding insurance benefits and recommend alternative sources of payment and/or financial assistance when appropriate.
  • Accept payments and co-pays.
  • Communicate effectively with insurance companies, external agencies, patients, physicians, and team members.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher).
  • 1+ years of customer service experience.
  • Ability to work any full-time shift between the hours of 5:30 AM - 5:30 PM, including flexibility to work occasional overtime and every 2-3 months a half day on Saturday.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ years of related work experience, including data entry.
  • Working knowledge of medical office procedures and medical terminology.
