Responsibilities

  • Review building permit applications for compliance with zoning and site development standards.
  • Prepare and conduct presentations before boards and commissions regarding project proposals and code amendments.
  • Review land use applications including subdivisions, conditional use permits, and Comprehensive Plan amendments, writing detailed reports on compliance with city codes.
  • Prepare and issue public notices for land use projects, ensuring adherence to required timelines.
  • Conduct field visits for inspections and public notice postings, fulfilling public records requests as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with the public, including property owners and project applicants, through various channels.
  • Participate in assigned committees and provide necessary support and information during meetings.
  • Conduct SEPA reviews of project proposals and maintain public handouts and website updates related to planning activities.
  • Develop and maintain GIS mapping and database records, coordinating with outside organizations as necessary.
  • Review and recommend changes to City codes or policies based on operational experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban, Regional, or Municipal Planning, Geography, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience performing planning duties, including policy and code review, analysis, and report preparation.
  • Valid Driver's License at the time of hire, with an acceptable driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience leading projects or staff in a municipal planning environment.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to land development.
