About the position

The Associate position at Accion Venture Lab involves working across the investments team and the strategic portfolio support function. The role focuses on supporting global Investment Officers in evaluating potential investments, developing investment theses, and providing post-investment support to early-stage fintech startups. The Associate will also contribute to thought leadership efforts and drive projects related to gender lens investing, fund performance, and impact measurement. This position is ideal for a pre-MBA young professional aspiring to become an operator in a fintech startup or a senior investor.

Responsibilities

  • Support investment activity in LATAM, Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, assisting regional investment leads in deal evaluation and diligence processes.
  • Work alongside the Managing Partner in leading investment activities in the United States, assessing new opportunities and developing investment theses for the Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan.
  • Represent the fund during pitches from founders, complete prescreening analysis, conduct background research, and perform financial modeling during diligence.
  • Manage deal transactions and portfolio relationships after investment.
  • Provide strategic and analytical support to Venture Lab portfolio companies globally, identifying challenges and developing projects to address growth barriers.
  • Engage with portfolio founders to execute projects through research, analysis, and co-creation.
  • Develop knowledge resources and thought leadership around key investment topics and operational needs for early-stage fintech companies.
  • Document and share learnings across the inclusive fintech ecosystem and support impact-focused workstream leads.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of relevant experience in management consulting, venture capital, private equity, investment banking, or technology startups.
  • Strong research and analysis skills, including financial analytics.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-performing team environment and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Outstanding relationship management skills and ability to earn respect from colleagues, investors, and enterprises.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate data and insights in a structured fashion to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Advanced computer/web skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Alignment with Accion's mission and values.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in or with startups or growth-stage enterprises.
  • Domain expertise in financial services and/or financial inclusion, particularly in financial technology, payment systems, and innovative delivery models.
  • Language skills beyond English; Arabic skills are a plus.
