About the position

The Associate Portfolio Manager role within the Public Sector Portfolio Management Group at Key Bank focuses on providing financial products and services to municipal clients. This position involves performing financial analysis, preparing underwriting documents, making credit decisions, and monitoring ongoing credit for a portfolio of municipal clients. The role is designed for an experienced associate looking to expand their career in municipal finance, with a flexible work environment that allows for mobile or remote work with occasional travel to the Cleveland or Colorado offices.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing and researching municipal issuers and borrowers across various sectors.
  • Gathering and analyzing relevant financial data for clients or prospects.
  • Preparing thorough credit underwriting documents identifying credit risks and mitigants.
  • Participating in the underwriting of different credit deals.
  • Engaging in comprehensive client and credit research.
  • Preparing detailed underwriting reports and recommendations for approval by credit officers.
  • Working on various one-time projects.
  • Interacting with deal team members and clients.
  • Taking part in the approval process for lending commitments, amendments, waivers, and consents.
  • Assisting in compliance with all Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations.
  • Maintaining documentation and necessary business records.
  • Monitoring ongoing financial performance of municipalities in the portfolio and tracking covenant compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Portfolio Management/Credit Risk/Relationship Management, preferably within municipal finance.
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or equivalent work experience.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks with a high sense of urgency in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Disciplined work ethic and superior attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous project deadlines effectively.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Exposure to finance and accounting and/or quantitative modeling.
  • Experience with financial modeling and analysis preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team.
  • Highly motivated and energetic with a strong interest in finance and the public sector.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in lending to municipalities is preferred.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $100,000 to $115,000 annually depending on location and experience.
  • Eligibility for short-term incentive compensation and deferred incentive compensation based on individual and company performance.
