About the position

The Associate Portfolio Manager at Northwestern Mutual plays a crucial role in supporting the Private Client Services (PCS) team by managing a distinct portfolio of high-net-worth clients, while also assisting PCS Portfolio Managers with their accounts. This position requires a strong understanding of investment strategies and the ability to communicate effectively with Wealth Management Advisors and clients. The role involves operational management, client relationship building, and portfolio analysis to ensure alignment with the company's investment philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Execute operational and global portfolio management requirements through various platforms.
  • Examine the PCS book of business to identify trading opportunities and implement process improvements.
  • Support Portfolio Specialists in operational tasks and responsibilities as needed.
  • Update portfolio management cash and asset allocation drift models daily to assist the Portfolio Management team.
  • Create and analyze investment proposals for prospective PCS clients based on advisor information.
  • Conduct case consultations with advisors and participate in prospective client calls to illustrate PCS capabilities.
  • Provide guidance on discretionary investment capabilities and approved investment strategies to advisors and clients.
  • Lead portfolio review calls with WMAs and clients to strengthen relationships and educate on market perspectives.
  • Monitor client investment policy allocation and cash balances, executing trades according to client objectives.
  • Facilitate global allocation trades across a book of business exceeding $14 billion.
  • Prepare client portfolio review materials and perform compliance reviews on client accounts.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and act as a liaison with various departments.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or a related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the investment/fiduciary management industry.
  • Strong understanding of investments, financial markets, and asset allocation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain client relationships while providing quality service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Technical expertise in applications such as Envestnet, NetX 360, Bloomberg, and Excel.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify and resolve critical issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Progress towards CFA, CFP, CAIA, or MBA is desirable.
