About the position

The Associate Portfolio Manager at Northwestern Mutual plays a crucial role in supporting the management of Private Client Services (PCS) accounts, demonstrating a strong understanding of the investment philosophy and processes. This position involves managing a distinct book of business valued between $300 million to $1 billion, while also assisting PCS Portfolio Managers in their operational and portfolio management tasks. The role requires effective communication with Wealth Management Advisors (WMAs) and high-net-worth clients, focusing on building long-term relationships and delivering exceptional service.

Responsibilities

  • Execute operational and global portfolio management requirements through various platforms.
  • Examine the PCS book of business to identify trading opportunities and implement process improvements.
  • Support Portfolio Specialists in operational tasks and responsibilities.
  • Update portfolio management cash and asset allocation drift models daily.
  • Create and analyze investment proposals for prospective PCS clients based on advisor information.
  • Conduct case consultations with advisors and participate in prospective client calls.
  • Provide guidance on discretionary investment capabilities and approved strategies.
  • Lead portfolio review calls with WMAs and clients to strengthen relationships.
  • Monitor client investment policy allocation and execute trades according to objectives.
  • Prepare client portfolio review materials and perform compliance reviews on accounts.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and act as a liaison with various departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the investment/fiduciary management industry.
  • Strong understanding of investments, financial markets, and asset allocation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain client relationships with quality service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Technical expertise in applications like Envestnet, NetX 360, Bloomberg, and Excel.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to identify and resolve critical issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Progress towards CFA, CFP, CAIA, or MBA is desirable.
