About the position

The Associate Principal, Database Administrator position is a critical role within our prestigious company, focusing on the management and support of our database systems. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in production support, performance tuning, backup strategies, and database management systems (DBMS). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in DB2 LUW on Red Hat and PostgreSQL, with a minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience. The role is hybrid, requiring three days onsite and two days remote work, and it is a permanent full-time position without sponsorship options. In this role, the DBA will be responsible for assisting in the design, implementation, and maintenance of databases, ensuring optimal performance and efficient disk usage. The candidate will provide support in database access methods and offer consultation in database analysis, modeling, coding, and resolving production issues. Developing maintenance, backup, and recovery procedures, along with comprehensive documentation, is essential. The DBA will also participate in disaster recovery drills and provide primary on-call support for production problems, ensuring adherence to corporate data standards. The position involves recommending and assisting with new DBMS and operational standards, participating in testing and evaluations of new software and software release upgrades, and maintaining metadata repositories. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with other teams to ensure the integrity and performance of our database systems, making this a vital role in our IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the design, implementation, and maintenance of databases.
  • Manages database performance and disk usage.
  • Provides support in database access methods.
  • Offers consultation support in database analysis, modeling, coding, and production problem resolution.
  • Develops maintenance, backup, and recovery procedures and documentation.
  • Participates in disaster recovery drills.
  • Provides primary on-call support for production problems.
  • Understands and supports corporate data standards.
  • Recommends and assists with new DBMS and operational standards.
  • Participates in testing and evaluations of new software and software release upgrades.
  • Maintains metadata repositories.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Business.
  • 7+ years' experience with PostgreSQL.
  • 7+ years' experience with DB2 LUW, preferably on Red Hat Linux.
  • 3+ years' experience developing and maintaining complex applications that make extensive use of a supported database technology or 3+ years' experience as an associate DBA.
  • Experienced in two or more programming languages and two or more scripting languages.
  • Practiced at Entity/Relationship or Object modeling and translation to physical database designs.
  • Proficient in DML, DDL, and database utilities for at least two DBMS technologies.
  • Proficient in all access methods of a DBMS as well as the underlying operating system access methods.
  • Understanding of all software subsystems (DBMS, TP Managers, etc.) for one environment.
  • 1+ year of experience with Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins & CI/CD skills.
  • 1+ years' experience with SQL Server.
  • 1+ years' experience with DB2 in a z/OS environment.
  • 1+ years' experience with MySQL/MariaDB.
  • Experience with BMC tools for DB2 (Change/Catalog Manager, MainView, Log Master).

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic Java, Perl & Linux Shell script skills.
  • 1+ years' experience with EDB Postgres & EDB Postgres Distributed.
