L'Oréal Research & Innovation (R&I) is seeking an Associate Principal Scientist to join its Mergers & Acquisitions team at the Clark, New Jersey site. This role is pivotal in investigating the product portfolios of potential acquisition or investment brands, summarizing findings in detailed technical documents to facilitate reviews by the R&I Acquisition team. The Associate Principal Scientist will organize and coordinate R&I Pre-Assessment, Pre-Due Diligence, and Due Diligence reviews, collaborating with various support teams including Product Safety, Regulatory, Claims, and Microbiology. Under the supervision of the Head of R&I Mergers & Acquisitions, the successful candidate will summarize reviews in formal documents for presentation to the R&I Senior Management team. The role requires developing and maintaining strong working relationships across departments, including the Brand/Business Division and the M&A team. The Associate Principal Scientist will plan and execute departmental system requirements aimed at minimizing errors and ensuring clarity in departmental actions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the role involves organizing Acquisition Project meetings, issuing meeting minutes, and motivating teams involved in the review process. The candidate must respect confidentiality and interact effectively with researchers and groups at all levels. To succeed in this position, candidates should possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biological, Physical or Material Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or related fields, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the cosmetic and personal care industry. Hands-on experience in product development and formulation is preferred, as is knowledge of mergers and acquisitions. The ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and think creatively is crucial. Foreign language skills, particularly in Spanish or French, are a plus. The position requires onsite presence as it is essential for the role, and candidates must have authorization to work in the United States without the need for legal sponsorship.
