About the position

Penguin Young Readers Group is seeking an Associate Production Editor to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the quality and accuracy of our publications, focusing on young adult, middle grade, graphic novel, and picture book titles. The Associate Production Editor will be responsible for copyediting and proofreading all stages of books, from electronically copyedited manuscripts through to the final proofs, known as blues. This position will primarily support the Nancy Paulsen Books imprint, while also assisting with other imprints such as Dial, Rocky Pond, Dutton, Kokila, and G. P. Putnam's Sons. Our notable authors include acclaimed writers like Renée Ahdieh, Melissa de la Cruz, John Green, Ellen Hopkins, Adib Khorram, Celia C. Pérez, and Jacqueline Woodson. In this role, you will engage in a variety of tasks that are essential to the production process. You will copyedit manuscripts using Track Changes in Microsoft Word, ensuring that all author responses are incorporated and that any new text is thoroughly reviewed. You will also evaluate and incorporate changes from proofreaders and authors during the first-pass pages review, which may involve additional copyediting and fact-checking. As the project progresses, you will review and correct all subsequent passes, including second, third, and blues, as well as any additional materials such as indexes and notes. For picture books and graphic novels, you will check the art against the text through multiple design stages to ensure accuracy and consistency. Your responsibilities will also include copyediting and reviewing jacket stages, picture book proofs, and marketing materials, as well as fact-checking text as needed. You will prepare manuscripts for design by styling text in Microsoft Word according to house guidelines and liaise with various departments, including Managing Editorial, Editorial, and Design, as well as freelance copyeditors and proofreaders. This role requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively while maintaining high quality in your work.
