About the position

The Associate Professor position at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is a non-tenure academic clinician track role focused on clinical informatics. The Associate Chief Health Informatics Officer (ACHIO) will lead the ambulatory EHR initiatives, balancing clinical informatics responsibilities with direct patient care. This role requires advanced training in clinical informatics or related fields, and the ACHIO will collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the EHR system and improve pediatric healthcare delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the ambulatory EHR as Associate Chief Health Informatics Officer (ACHIO).
  • Lead clinical informatics activities with 60-70% protected time.
  • Engage in direct clinical care with 30-40% of time allocated.
  • Collaborate with leaders across the health system to align EHR structure and strategy with enterprise goals.
  • Supervise ambulatory EHR champions and oversee EHR optimization programs.
  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows on clinical informatics topics.
  • Participate in informatics governance and contribute to technology project evaluations.

Requirements

  • M.D. or equivalent degree required.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Clinical Informatics (ABPM) or equivalent certification required.
  • Advanced training in clinical informatics or related disciplines preferred (e.g., human computer interaction, computer science).
  • Certifications in relevant EHR technologies, especially Epic, are strongly preferred.
  • Experience in leading enterprise-wide technology-related change initiatives.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fellowship, master's degree, PhD, or other advanced certification in clinical informatics or related fields.
  • Experience in user-centered design, biostatistics, or epidemiology.
